Farage, Autism and the ‘Path to Hell’
The Reform UK Leader’s comments about those with a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities diagnosis represent a dangerous mode of thinking, writes Stephen Unwin
The most vulnerable are hit the hardest in the ‘culture wars’. So it was entirely predictable that attention would be turned to a small group of people who have slightly different kinds of minds.
Like many minorities today, those with mental health issues, who are autistic, or have learning disabilities are presented as something strange – a different kind of human being posing a threat and an unsustainable drain on the public purse.
Referring to young people with a SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) diagnosis, Reform UK Leader Nigel Farage claimed we are “massively over-diagnosing those with mental illness problems and those with other general behavioural disabilities”.
