Jubilee’s ‘Empathy-Seeking’ Far-Right Debates

Finding a ‘middle ground’ isn’t really the point of videos like Mehdi Hasan’s recent appearance on the media platform’s Surrounded show – it’s just about the spectacle, writes Matt Gallagher

If we needed yet another reminder that we live in a post-truth age, a recent debate between Zeteo’s Mehdi Hasan and a coterie of far-right extremists illustrated the point perhaps too vividly.

Showcasing the shocking state of right-wing radicalisation in the United States, the producers of Jubilee Media’s Surrounded programme also showed us what it looks like when media organisations conflate ‘my truth’ with the truth, implying that all perspectives are made equal.

Jubilee is a former non-profit-turned corporate YouTube and social media phenomenon, boasting more than 10 million subscribers.
