‘Anxiety Breeds Anxiety’
The New Brexit
Immigration and asylum has replaced Brexit as the rabble-rouser of our times, drowning out almost every other subject and consuming vast government resources.
They offer simple solutions that waste everyone’s time, energy, and headspace and usually turn out to be useless. Consider for a moment how Brexit has increased immigration not reduced it, as was promised by its most fervent advocates.
Harpooning fat-cat Eurocrats of Brussels – absurdly accusing them of evil intent to crush our way of life and personal freedoms – was once an obsession for those set on finding someone else to blame for our national woes rather than taking on the hard graft of dealing with them.
Since Brexit, virtually the same group of people have re-focused their blame game on the flow of people coming to our shores (apparently unaware of the irony that Brexit vastly increased the numbers) – variously painting them as feckless, violent, and, inevitably, of bringing evil intent to crush our way of life and personal freedoms.
