Seeking Attention

As 2026 dawned, my mind turned to new year’s resolutions.

David Attenborough’s exhilarating, emotional, and stunningly beautiful Wild London, broadcast on New Year’s Day, was a powerful reminder of one I try to follow every year: to pay more attention.

This glorious one-off documentary explores the wildlife that somehow thrive in London, despite its nine million people, 2.6 million cars, and more than 600 square miles of concrete, asphalt, and steel – from peregrine falcons on the Houses of Parliament (I’m gutted I never noticed them while I was an MP), to wary wild foxes in a Tottenham allotment, hedgehogs in Ealing gardens, and pigeons that hop on and off the Underground’s circle line with all the confidence of a daily commuter.

Unbelievably, Attenborough turns 100 this year, yet he has lost nothing of his enthusiasm, curiosity, and sharp-eyed attentiveness, telling the wonderful stories of the wildlife that is quite literally on our doorsteps and under our noses. His endless capacity for wonder is contagious.

Bad Press Awards – The Heavily Drugged Dove of War Equals Peace

If Donald Trump were a fictional character, critics would be extremely sniffy about the writers’ room that created him. Don’t they know anything about subtext or subtlety?
