Moonstruck
Why our closest celestial neighbour still has secrets to reveal
The moon loomed large in my Christmas, hanging above the frozen fields like a luminous icy disc.
I’m always reassured by its time-collapsing presence, knowing that it was this very same moon that Homer saw, that Shakespeare once gazed on.
Perhaps it’s the combination of its size and its otherworldly beauty that makes the relationship feel personal and intimate and so unlike the one with the busy, unruly sun, which we can’t even look at safely.
The moon’s comings and goings are mysterious; its light takes us deeper into ourselves.
