A Letter from America
Trump’s War On the World
Rick Wilson
One truth about modern warfare is that it never becomes more popular over time. Like most Americans, I refuse to pretend Donald Trump’s war with Iran is some Putin-esque ‘special military operation’ or other comforting euphemism. So it’s not a shock to find this war begins already underwater in the polls.
Our several-billion-dollars-a-day operation raining down a significant fraction of our arsenal on the heads of Iran starts from a position of deep public scepticism. The global economic catastrophe unfolding has every market in the world holding its breath.
Trump wanted this war. And he got it.
To avoid triggering the War Powers Act, the administration is not calling it a war. But Trump is, and I take him at his word in this rare case.
