The Inhumane Cost of Spectacle:
Iran Under Bombs
Kamin Mohammadi reflects on the reality for her country – in the present and the future – of another illegal war being waged on innocent people
In the 10 days since Israel and America’s illegal war against Iran started, everything has turned upside down. It is the stuff of nightmares.
It is a war that is illegal, according to international law. And yet, Iran’s retaliation is spoken of more than the illegality of the war itself – which is continually referred to as ‘conflict in the Middle East’. As if the region just got up one morning and decided to set itself on fire.
The dissonance continues with messages from non-Iranian friends who, in order to emphasise their sense of empathy, tell me that they know how I feel because their friend/sister-in-law/colleague is on holiday in Dubai and has been evacuated from their seven-star hotel.
