If we hit our £15k target, Byline Times will commission a dedicated team of seasoned reporters to investigate each and every Reform-held council.
The team will publish regular reports on what they discover from:
- Filing ROIs;
- Attending council meetings;
- Speaking to opposition council members and whistleblowers;
- Monitoring planning and license decisions;
- Verifying council members’ claims;
- Following up on local complaints and controversies;
- Investigating links to private firms and pressure groups;
- Mapping networks of influence across Reform’s councils;
- And much, much more.
We will bring in local readers, campaigners and community groups to shine a spotlight on what’s happening.
What’s more, we’ll provide you with regular updates with opportunities for readers to weigh in and give your input.
Why investigate Reform?
Because right-wing populist parties are on the rise around the world. These movements warn of overwhelming crises and even civil wars. They make bold proclamations and grandiose promises.
But the press is listening to what they say, not watching what they do.
The reality is clear: it’s up to independent journalists to actually ask tough questions. To expose the realities that Reform UK doesn’t want revealed – and that the rest of the media can’t be bothered to find out.
Byline Times has already been doing that – but if we can raise £15k, this dedicated team can do it on an entirely different scale.
Chief Reporter Josiah Mortimer and others have extensively covered Reform UK at the local level, to a scale unmatched by any other UK newspaper.
Josiah – who has uncovered enough about Reform to get barred from their party conference – will lead our new investigative team.
