Many of us found incredible intimacy, friendship, support, love, camaraderie, and political activation through online conversations. Social media, at its best, has been extraordinarily good at connecting people – and I don’t want to lose sight of that because I think there’s a reactionary account of social media that says it just drives us apart intrinsically, and I don’t think that’s true.

The likes of Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk have very bad ideas. But it’s a mistake to locate the crisis of social media solely in the ideology of Silicon Valley billionaires.
