Kent County Council’s ‘Misleading’ DOLGE Report Based on Ex-Reform Chairman’s Tweets
The Reform UK-run council’s attempt to set out its priorities to make Elon Musk-style cuts has been deemed ‘a bit of a joke’. Max Colbert reports
The team appointed by Nigel Farage to slash spending at Reform UK-led Kent County Council published a report on the policy based on inaccurate and misleading information – derived from the party’s former chairman’s social media account, opposition councillors have claimed.
The ‘Progress of the Kent Department of Local Government Efficiency (DOLGE)’ report, published on 16 July, provided “an introduction to the work of the Kent DOLGE [the Department of Local Government Efficiency] and the priorities of the administration”. However, the appendix simply referred to tweets by former chairman Zia Yusuf relating to the work of DOLGE since the May elections.
Yusuf claimed on 15 June that “Kent County Council is using taxpayer money to pay for TV licences for asylum seekers. Remember that next time you are asked to pay for yours” – which the report refers to as evidence of a “national scandal”.
