THE FILM THAT CHANGED MY LIFE
Clare Farrell on
‘My Dinner With Andre’
Release Date: 1981
Director: Louis Malle
I first watched My Dinner With Andre about 15 years ago. I was off sick and I turned it on without knowing what to expect.
I adored its format that was just a conversation – nothing else, but it was gripping. It was so gloriously simple.
Written by and starring André Gregory and Wallace Shawn as fictionalised versions of themselves, the plot revolves around a man who is having a hard time and who meets up with a friend he hasn’t seen in a while at Café des Artistes in Manhattan.
