A COSTLY BAN
What are the Conservatives afraid of?
It’s a question without an answer, as a second Byline Times journalist was blocked from attending its annual party conference, Josiah Mortimer reports.
Following Political and Online Editor Adam Bienkov’s rejection from this year’s Conservative Party Conference, freelance contributor David Hencke was also given the cold shoulder – and an expensive one at that.
The award-winning veteran investigative reporter – who exposed the ‘Cash for Questions’ scandal and was named Political Journalist of the Year at the 2012 British Journalism Awards – has been a regular attendee of the event since 1987. But, this year, the Conservatives failed to approve his media pass, leaving him hundreds of pounds out of pocket for the accommodation he had already booked.
