Isabel’s Empire Times
I was astounded to read the article ‘On the Record: My Peaceful Paradise’ by Otto English (16 April 2026) in which Isabel Oakeshott speaks as one who is still living in the days of the British Raj.
She might have just popped out of a Rudyard Kipling poem or a Somerset Maugham novel where the natives in, for example, the Far East, were called ‘coolies’. It is extraordinary to consider that two centuries have bypassed this woman who talks about “the poor people who do all the bad jobs and have no rights”, as though it were the natural state of affairs.
If the USA’s illegal war in Iran escalates further and Iran decides to destroy the desalination plants in Dubai, it may be that Isabel’s luxury lifestyle of non-stop spas, hair-dos, nail salon visits, cocktails, and conceited, self-important, vanity journalism may abruptly come to an end.
