Melanie Challenger is one of the most interesting writers currently working in the rich seam that connects natural history, environment, and ethics.
As well as her many articles and two books, she hosts the podcast Enter the Psychosphere on intelligence in nature, with guests that have included Peter Godfrey-Smith and Anil Seth – both previous Zeitgeisters.
She is the deputy chair of the UK’s Nuffield Council on Bioethics. She also chairs the steering group for Animals in the Room, an international project to devise a new political mechanism to represent non-human animals.
She is a member of the Consortium of Environmental Philosophers.
